Ahhh...Don't You Just Love the North Carolina Coast?

The North Carolina Coast is a very special place indeed. I feel relaxed just thinking about it. The sounds of the waves crashing on the beach, the seagulls flying overhead, the glimps of a sailboat on the sparkling water. Yes, this is the North Carolina Coast.

And this is what life is all about.

This beautiful place has miles and miles of treasured coastline that sit just behind the Outer Banks, and consist of many island retreats and hidden places to enjoy.

North Carolina is a state of vast differences and each part has is't very own personality. As we focus on the coast, we must also mention the Outer Banks. The Outer Banks, are a series of small islands connected to the mainland by boats and bridges.

Although it is clear that the Outer Banks ends at the Virginia border, the question that is debated most is where it actually begins? Some say Ocracoke Island but others are sure it is Beaufort.

So you decide!

In any case, the rivers lead inland where many small port towns have developed, each with its own bit of charm. Some of the most visited places are lighthouses, restaurants, beaches, and the Jockey’s Ridge dunes, which are known to be the tallest dune system along the eastern seaboard.

Pretty cool huh?

For the most part, the North Carolina coast is generally divided into three broad sections that include islands, shoreline, and coastal plains:

The Outer Banks includes Corolla going south through Ocracoke Island, and includes Roanoke Island.

The Crystal Coast includes Core Banks and Bogue Banks, Beaufort, Morehead City, and the inland river town of New Bern.

The Cape Fear region includes Wrightsville Beach through the Brunswick County islands, and also includes Wilmington.

However, along with these areas are quite a few miscellaneous islands that are used for various activities that mostly include conservancy efforts of one kind or another. So, as you are out exploring the waterway, you may see an unfamiliar island and wonder what is there. If you are curious, just ask! You won't meet a more friendly bunch anywhere.

So, come on out to the beach!

Where there are so many fun things to do!

Staying on Topsail Island is an excellent choice if you want to surround yourself with unprecedented beauty that is not contaminated by the growth and development that plagues many great vacation destinations.

Here are just a few of the best coast restaurants. If you have a favorite, let us know!
