NORTH CAROLINA COLLEGES

North Carolina colleges are some of the most well respected in the country.

The big ones you probably have heard of are:

Duke University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Wake Forest University & North Carolina State university.

But believe it or not, there are fifty-three universities and colleges, and fifty-eight community colleges and technical schools, and five bible colleges.

So whatever it is you are looking for in your educational experience,

you can find it in North Carolina!

Some history on the North Carolina colleges and universities

The system of education in North Carolina runs back to 1789, when a board of trustees was appointed and Chapel Hill, North Carolina was chosen for the location of the first university. It is known as the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an interesting fact is that the at Chapel Hill was added later, during the consolidation of state supported schools.

It was not widely accepted by the older graduates, who thought the "new" name was preposterous. As the only college to graduate students in the 18th century, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill proves to be a historical landmark that continues to provide a top notch education.

What you may not believe, is that before UNC-Chapel Hill opened, North Carolinian's that wanted a top notch education had to go out of state to a private college. And now, some of the best schools in the United States are in North Carolina!

Even before the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill was built, the constitution was drawn up in 1776,that talked about establishing "one or more universities" in which "all useful learning shall be duly encouraged and promoted..."

DONE!
