North Carolina Counties
The state of North Carolina is divided into 100 counties. They are ranked 28th in size by area, and has the seventh most counties in the whole country.
The county history of North Carolina stretches over 340 years, It all began in the year 1668 with the creation of Albemarle County and ended in 1911 when Avery and Hoke counties came to be. Five North Carolina counties have been divided or abolished altogether, the last one was Dobbs County in 1791.
