Raleigh North Carolina





Raleigh North Carolina is the capital city of the state and located in Wake County. It is the second largest city in North Carolina (after Charlotte). Raleigh North Carolina is known as the "City of Oaks" for its many oak trees.

Raleigh North Carolina weather is a humid subtropical climate, with generally moderate temperatures during spring and autumn. Summers are typically warm to hot. Winters are cool to cold and wet with highs generally in the range of upper 40s to low 50s°F with lows in the mid 20s to low 30s°F, although an occasional 60°F or warmer winter day is not uncommon.

If you live in the city of Raleigh North Carolina, or are planning a visit, you can take part in the many events that take place in the city each year. Raleigh boasts of warm weather throughout the year and has many North Carolina attractions for family and adults that everyone can enjoy. Some of the top Raleigh events are as follows.

Raleigh Junior Fishing Competition

The last Sunday in June spells fun for little anglers as the city hosts the Raleigh Junior Fishing Competition. The event takes place at Shelley Lake Park and offers tackle as well as fishing lessons for children ages 4 to 12. There are different levels of competition that are broken down into age groups. This is an annual event that has been going on in Raleigh for the past 25 years.



Raleigh History Days

In historic Oakwood, you can enjoy the Raleigh History Days that take place beginning on July 4th and last throughout the month of July. The history days feature those in costume of Colonial North Carolina Days as well as Civil War reenactments. This takes place every Friday through Sunday in the Oakwood neighborhood right in the heart of downtown Raleigh.

Taste of Raleigh

Shelley Park in North Raleigh is the venue for the Taste of Raleigh. If you enjoy Southern home cooking, then you will not want to miss this event that occurs on the last weekend of July. The Taste of Raleigh includes foods from local restaurants that set up vending booths in the large park. Anyone can attend and purchase tickets so that they can sample the foods from restaurants located in and around the Raleigh area.



North Carolina State Fair

The last two weeks of August are when the North Carolina State Fair takes place in Raleigh at the State Fair grounds. You can enjoy carnival rides at a large midway as well as food, a rodeo, entertainment and even take in some of the competition. If you have never been to State Fair, this is the time to start.



International Festival

The Raleigh International Festival takes place at the State Fair grounds every year during the last weekend of September. Participants from all over the globe visit Raleigh to exhibit wares as well as introduce foods and entertain those attending the fair. For a true cultural experience, you can have a good time at the International Festival in Raleigh.



Haunted Historic Walk

The historic Oakwood neighborhood is home to the Haunted Historic Walk that takes place every weekend during the month of October and including Halloween. You can enjoy the historic walk that has a haunting effect by going through the city of Raleigh North Carolina by candlelight with a guided tour guide who will tell you all about the local haunts. This walk is fun for the entire family.



Tree Lighting Ceremony

The day after Thanksgiving is the day that Raleigh North Carolina and the State Capitol gets ready for Christmas. The annual lighting of the tree on the Capitol grounds is an event for all to enjoy. There is also hot cocoa and chestnuts available for those who want to take in the holiday cheer.
