Western North Carolina
I think it's Western North Carolina that has always captured my interest. I would recommend this beautiful and scenic destination to anyone.
I particularly like hiking the trails in the far western part of the state including the Appalachain Trail. The Nantahala section is particularly fun with such wonderful views.
Aside from the natural beauty of the Smoky Mountains, I'm also partial to the ever interesting scene in Asheville. It has such a fantastic blend of restaurants, cafes and shops that make a day trip here lots of fun. The last time we passed through Asheville we just enjoyed walking around its eclectic downtown and seeing some local art.
I would also recommend Black Mountain if you're in this area. This little town is a short drive from Asheville and has a tranquil, earthy vibe that we love. We stopped at the local cafe for some coffee and cake and just wanted to stay all day.
